In 1996, the Brewers won on Opening Day by plating 15 runs off 22 hits. Chuck Carr and Jose Valentine both had four-hit games, Jeff Cirillo three hits, and then five others had multiple hits that game. A day later, they collected seven hits and lost the game.
Milwaukee has rapped out 24 hits, tied with the 1978 team for fourth-most in franchise history through the first two games of a season.
The 1996 team had 29, the 1994 team had 27 and the 1982 team had 25.
The Brewers will take on the Mets on Easter Sunday to wrap up their three-game Opening Weekend series. Their 1996 team collected 11 hits during their third game of the year, so it will be interesting to see if Milwaukee can match or surpass their 40 total hits through three games.
