Even a player with as much swagger as Jazz Chisholm Jr. can’t do it all for the Miami Marlins. Baseball is a game where each individual must do their part, or your team isn’t going far. Unfortunately, even a Jazz Chisholm Jr. grand slam for the Miami Marlins wasn’t bringing them the win over the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Some fun facts about this Jazz Chisholm grand slam:
-it’s the Marlins first homer of the season -it took the Marlins until September to hit their first grand slam last season -Jazz now has all 3 grand slams the Marlins have hit over the last two season
Jazz has the distinction of hitting the third grand slam of the season. The Miami Marlins started off the season 4-0 after dropping the entire weekend to the Pittsburgh Pirates. However, a Jazz Chisholm Jr. grand slam in the 1st inning went a long way to giving the Marlins a bit of hope in this game.

Bailey Falter started the afternoon off on the wrong foot with a five-pitch walk to Luis Arraez. The next at-bat didn’t yield a better result, with Josh Bell drawing a walk himself on six pitches. After back-to-back singles from Jake Burger and Bryan De La Cruz, it was time for Jazz to do his thing.
With no outs in the inning, the 26-year-old stepped up to the plate and didn’t waste too much time. Falter threw a slider up and away, which was called a ball, and then threw a second ball. On the third pitch, he threw a 91.1 MPH sinker that was in about the same spot as the slider, and the Jazz Chisholm Jr. grand slam was deposited over the right field wall.
It had the Marlins up 5-0 by the time the first inning was over. The Pirates would go on to win 9-6, despite the Jazz Chisholm Jr. grand slam.

The Grand Slam by the Numbers
The Jazz Chisholm Jr. grand slam was one in a long line of grand slams for Jazz in his career. Even though he’s had a hard time staying healthy and on the field, when he’s there, he knows how to come up big. Chisholm has hit three home runs in his short career, and this one makes it his fourth.
This ball had an exit velocity of 104.9 MPH and a launch angle of 26 degrees, allowing it to travel 424 feet. It would be a home run in all 30 ballparks.
As we mentioned before, Jazz Chisholm hasn’t been able to put it all together. He’s had difficulty finding a groove in Miami, whether it be injury or ineffectiveness.
In the meantime, the Marlins made the interesting decision this offseason to move on from Kim Ng after she successfully brought them back to some sort of relevance.
They’re not off to a great start this season, and their pitching staff looks like something might be left to be desired. They’ll need more than a Jazz Chisholm Jr. grand slam to get it going, especially if they want to beat out the Phillies, Padres, Giants, and Diamondbacks behind the division winners.
